Damage in fiber bundle models
نویسنده
چکیده
We introduce a continuous damage fiber bundle model and compare its behavior with that of dry fiber bundles. Several interesting constitutive behaviors, such as plasticity, are found in this model depending on the value of the damage parameter and on the form of the disorder distribution. We compare the constitutive behavior of global load transfer models, obtained analytically, with local load transfer models numerical simulations. The evolution of the damage is studied analyzing the cluster statistics for dry and continous damage fiber bundles. Finally, it is shown that quenched random thresholds enhance damage localization. Effective Mechanical Properties of Nanocomposites Reinforced With Carbon Nanotubes Bundle
Nanocomposites made of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) bundles have attracted researchers’ attention due to their unusual properties such as: light weight, flexibility and stiffness. In this paper, the effects of straight and rope-shaped bundles on nanocomposite effective mechanical properties are investigated. First, FEA models are created consisting of CNTs with different shapes of straight and rope-...

We present a detailed analytical and numerical study of the avalanche distributions of the continuous damage fiber bundle model (CDFBM). Linearly elastic fibers undergo a series of partial failure events which give rise to a gradual degradation of their stiffness. We show that the model reproduces a wide range of mechanical behaviors. We find that macroscopic hardening and plastic responses are...
متن کاملFiber Bundle Models for Composite Materials
In this paper we will outline the advantages of using fiber bundles in modeling disordered materials. We will present the main aspects of classical fiber bundle models (FBMs) and highlight their ability to capture some essential aspects of composite materials. We then present some extensions of the classical FBM, modifying the way of interaction of fibers, failure law, deformation state and con...
متن کاملFailure process of a bundle of plastic fibers.
We present an extension of fiber bundle models considering that failed fibers still carry a fraction 0 < or = alpha < or = 1 of their failure load. The value of alpha interpolates between the perfectly brittle failure (alpha = 0) and perfectly plastic behavior (alpha = 1) of fibers. We show that the finite load bearing capacity of broken fibers has a substantial effect on the failure process of...
متن کاملFiber bundles and Lie algebras of top spaces
In this paper, by using of Frobenius theorem a relation between Lie subalgebras of the Lie algebra of a top space T and Lie subgroups of T(as a Lie group) is determined. As a result we can consider these spaces by their Lie algebras. We show that a top space with the finite number of identity elements is a C^{∞} principal fiber bundle, by this method we can characterize top spaces.
